Are herbicides safe indoors?

I read that some weed killers can mess with how plants take in nutrients and hurt their roots. That sounds risky for hydroponics. Now, I'm curious, have you ever had problems using herbicides inside or in greenhouses? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I tried spraying a weed killer near my greenhouse once, bad idea. Even trace drift stressed my lettuce roots. Since then, I only hand-pull weeds around the hydro setup. Safer all around.
