I'm planning a small grow operation in my basement and thinking about using a DWC/ebb hybrid setup to get more oxygen to the plants. Does anyone know if using reverse flood timing is a good idea?
@my3cohydro I think your reverse flood idea is interesting, but it might be overcomplicating things.
The most effective way to get oxygen to the roots in a DWC system is simply by using an air stone and a powerful air pump.
The bubbling action is what creates the high dissolved oxygen levels, and that's usually all you need. You'd get a lot more bang for your buck by just adding a powerful air pump than by messing with your flood timings
Reverse flood timing is tricky and I sincerely hope that you can pull it off well because too long and the roots can drown, too short and they don't get enough nutrients. Most growers stick with shorter flood cycles and let the ebb drain fully to keep oxygen levels up

When you say "reverse flood timing," do you mean flooding the grow media during the lights off period? That's what some people do with standard Ebb & Flow, but it's usually the opposite for DWC hybrids.
If you're mixing DWC and Ebb, the DWC part already gives you tons of oxygen to the roots 24/7! I'd suggest sticking to traditional flood timing (during lights-on) to prevent root rot in your media, which is the main risk of flooding while the plants are sleeping.
