Hi everyone! One of our members is looking to grow food year-round to cut grocery costs, but they’re unsure if hydroponics is truly budget-friendly. With the price of lights, nutrients and setup materials, does it actually save money in the long run, especially compared to the cheapest store produce?

If you’ve built a system on a tight budget or tracked your costs over time, we’d love to hear your experience. What worked, what didn’t and was it worth it? Let’s help each other out!

I’ve been at hydro since the 90s. If you’re comparing to the cheapest supermarket produce, it’s tough to beat. But the payoff is in freshness and control. you’re not buying lettuce that sat on a truck for a week. For me, that’s worth it
