So I've this come up a number of times now, not here tho but other places. I recommend regular reservoir cleaning, ideally every 1 to 2 weeks, and maintaining proper pH and EC levels to discourage pathogen growth. For disinfection, consider using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at a 3-5% concentration to kill off harmful microbes without damaging your plants. UV sterilizers can also be a great investment for continuous protection.
Additionally, introducing beneficial bacteria to outcompete harmful ones can create a more balanced environment, monitor water temperature always, as warmer temps can promote pathogen growth.

I second the regular rez cleanings, it actually makes a huge difference and peroxide can work for the short term, lest I forget to add, UV sterilizers are underrated too, if you're in a warm zone where rez temps creep up, good airflow and root zone oxygenation go a long way as well.

yup and it's the best way if you ask me. Drain it completely and add 3 to 5% solution and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Clean it and you're done. For regular cleaning, you'd need a more diluted solution, about half oz per gallon of 3% hydrogen peroxide

Absolutely! I found that out the hard way when I first tried a small DWC setup. I didn't clean properly between grows, and, sure enough, root slime appeared right on schedule within a week. A friend mentioned using peroxide, and it did wonders. Since then, I've been doing a light peroxide rinse every couple of weeks, and I haven't had any problems.

It's straightforward, inexpensive, and so much easier than dealing with root rot halfway through the grow.

Yeah, H₂O₂ can be surprisingly effective when used right. I mostly run leafy greens and herbs in my setup, so anything funky in the res can mess with root health pretty fast. Stuff like pythium doesn't need much to take hold, especially when temps creep up but the peroxide helps keep things in check between full cleanouts.
