NPK tips

My tomatoes taught me the hard way. Too much nitrogen early on gave me a jungle of vines but almost no fruit. Once I adjusted the NPK ratios, everything changed.
Quick tips I stick to now:
  • Seedlings: Balanced mix (10-10-10) for roots and leaves.
  • Veg stage: A little extra nitrogen (12-6-8) for strong stems.
  • Flowering: More phosphorus (5-10-10) to spark blossoms.
  • Fruiting: Potassium-rich (5-10-15) for tasty, healthy tomatoes.
  • pH check: Keep it between 6.0 to 6.8 so plants can actually use the nutrients.
Anyone else have funny fails or favorite ratios that finally worked? I’d love to hear what ratios or tricks you swear by for different stages!

Ah, tomatoes are divas about nutrients. I run 8‑4‑6 in veg, then jump to 4‑10‑12 once clusters form. The flavor difference was huge. Keeping pH steady has honestly been half the battle.

My funniest fail was overfeeding calcium… ended up with crunchy leaves. Now I stick to mild ratios and only supplement Ca/Mg when I see early signs. A 5‑5‑10 during early fruit set has been my safest bet.
