Bland tomatoes

My grandpa used to grow the tastiest tomatoes in soil and I’m trying to get that flavor in hydroponics. The plants are healthy, but the fruit tastes kind of.. bland. Is there a trick to boosting flavor in hydro setups?

Welcome @fuyudustt! Healthy plants but bland fruit usually means the environment is dialed in but the flavor compounds aren’t concentrating. Sometimes adding calcium and potassium during ripening helps. Are you using a fruiting‑stage nutrient mix or the same formula start to finish?

I’ve run into this too. My soil tomatoes tasted amazing, but my first hydro batch was.. well, polite. What helped me was upping the light and letting the reservoir run a bit leaner near harvest.
