Are higher expenses the biggest hydroponics issue

At work, one of my co-workers set up a hydroponics demo system in the breakroom and it grows basil fast but some of us were asking if the taste difference versus soil is worth the extra expense. Would you call cost the biggest disadvantage?

Flavor wise, hydro basil can be just as good but soil tends to have a bit more depth in taste for many people. It really comes down to whether the faster growth and cleaner setup justify the extra expense

Did you notice the flavor difference more with certain nutrient mixes or was it consistent across the board?
