Rain messed with my strawberries

I’m growing strawberries in 5-gal DWC buckets and had to move a few outside. Rain started messing with my nutrient levels, so I cut foam plates to cover the clay balls. Has anyone tried this? Any better ideas to keep rain out?

Yeah, I tried foam once, but rain still seeped in around the edges. Ended up using reflective mylar sheets taped over the clay balls. It kept the roots cooler in summer.
