My plants caught Pythium a while back, and I treated it with H₂O₂. They've grown new roots, but the upper roots still have a mucusy brown coating, what's the best way to clean that off completely?

You could try a mild enzyme treatment to break down that slime without stressing the roots. Just make sure to keep the water temps in check so it does not come back.

The good news is that you took care of that Pythium problem and what you're seeing is just some residue. The new roots show that you're on the right track and while the residue isn't harmful, you could clean it up. Not too sure about the enzyme and how it would work, but I'd try with some water or if you can't clean it that way, you can try a mild hydrogen peroxide wash to clean them off.

If you see some brown spots on the older roots of your plant but new healthy white roots are growing, don't stress too much. Just keep an eye on the water temperature, make sure it stays below 72°F and good oxygenation to prevent reinfection.
